All Math Classess: HALLOWEEN CANDY EXTRA CREDIT!

Go trick-or treating (or if you are too old for this, borrow some candy from a sibling or younger relative).  Create a data table and an appropriate graph displaying the frequency of each type of candy you received trick or treating.  Both data table and graph must be created on either graph paper or computer generated.  Remember to include all necessary labeling!

This extra credit is due Tuesday, November 2 for a total of 10 extra credit points (5 points for each the graph and the table).

You have been hired to supervise 22 4th-graders who are visiting a haunted house at Halloween.  You have a diagram of the house showing the "control booth" where you will be sitting, hidden behind 4 2-way mirrors.  one mirror is one each wall and each mirror looks into 3 rooms.  Mirror 1 looks into rooms A, B, C; mirror 2 looks into rooms C, E, H; mirror 3 looks into rooms F, G, H; mirror 4 looks into rooms A, D, F.  What is a possible arrangement of 22 students within the rooms if you can see 9 students through each of the 4 mirrors?

6 Math:  STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!  You have a test Monday.  For 11 points extra credit you may complete and turn in by Tuesday, October 26 textbook page 109, #1-11.

 
7 Math: For extra credit create your own set of algebra tiles (10 points)!  The set must include the following:
  • 10 positive ones
  • 10 negative ones
  • 8 positive x's
  • 8 negative x's
The tiles may be in color, they must be usable, and placed in a small plastic bag.

Problem of The Week: Due Friday, October 22

Look at the container of CANDY CORNS on display in the classroom.  Your job, this week, is to figure out how many candy corns are in the container.  You must apply skills of estimation, arithmetic, and measurements in completing this task.  These skills must be demonstrated in the work you turn-in on Friday in order to receive credit for the assignment.  A reasonable estimate falls within 20 candy corns of the correct answer, and a reasonable estimate, accompanied by correct work, will earn you a score of 5/5.

Darryl has a summer job with real ups and downs:  he delivers packages in the Sears Tower in Chicago.  Oh his first day, he is given a box of sandwiches to deliver during lunch time.  He takes the turkey sandwich to an office 3 floors above the basement.  He delivers the ham and cheese 13 floors above the turkey and 7 floors below the egg salad.  He delivers the pastrami 9 floors below the ham and cheese and 8 floors below the submarine sandwich.  He takes the tuna to an office 12 floors below the submarine sandwich.  What is the number of the floor to which Darryl delivered each sandwich?

8th Grade Community Service Assignment

After watching video of President Obama giving a speech on service, read the article at the link below, and complete the assignment that follows.

The assignment is due Thursday, October 14.
